They're simple, quick projects, and very relaxing to make. I'm on my second set of three in a week. I'm on the hunt for some inexpensive cotton to make more with.

They started out as gifts, but I'm making so many of them I ought to have a few to sell as well. All I need are some cute buttons for closures (and some nicer photographs!) and they'll be ready to list.

I also have a couple sets of stitch markers that are just in need of packaging. That particular hurdle has yet to be worked out.

A little progress, already!

I went on the hunt for patterns that were available for commercial use, specifically, as the result of a conversation on Ravelry, where someone mentioned that Lion Brand does allow individuals to sell FOs based on their patterns. Considering that the site has tons of free ones, this was a good start, but I wanted to see if other companies allowed the same thing.

I browsed a few sites and, when I didn't find this information listed, simply used the Contact Us pages for their intended purpose. So far I've heard back from Classic Elite and Brown Sheep; CE doesn't allow commercial use wholesale (so to speak), but I'd have to request permission from the pattern's authors. Brown Sheep does allow commercial use.

So, I'm gathering patterns, or at least references to patterns, in my Ravelry queue.

I might get this stuff together by March after all.

Salutations

I've occupied way too much space on the intarwebs already, and originally intended to merely show off my gradually-improving knitting skills on my Wordpress blog, so as to not take up more free webspace unnecessarily. Of course, when I discovered that Ravelry's progress bar widget did not work on Wordpress.com hosted sites, I started a little knitting blog for myself here.

I think I am the world's least creative name-giver, so I gave this blog the same title as my ever-so-descriptive Etsy shop name, "Jo's Crafts". The Etsy shop itself is not yet up and running. I still have some work to do, basically making items to sell, either from patterns that allow commercial use, or using basic stitches and techniques that are not copyrighted. I'm sure there are only so many entrelac scarves people will be interested in, and since I want to concentrate on baby gear, I'll have to find those permissible patterns, at least until I'm skilled enough to start designing my own.

Legal is IMPORTANT, y'all. I'm not fooling around with that mess.

But this will be a place for me to share FOs (Finished Objects) in more depth, and (eventually, with any luck) a place for me to publish patterns I've created, should I take to knitting (and possibly, crochet) with as much dedication and tenacity as gusto.
